Darr (1993)

Sleeping with the enemy (1991) is a Hollywood violent love story. Laura Burney lives in a beautiful home by the beach on Cape Cod with her husband, Martin, a charmingly handsome and wealthy investment counselor who is also possessive, abusive, and controlling. It becomes clear that he has obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, and while she tries to abide by his needs, she seems to suffer under the strain. Martin believes Laura has been flirting with an attractive neighbor, and he physically assaults her as punishment. The abuse is an ongoing routine, which began immediately after their wedding. She is scared of his violent tendencies, which are hidden underneath a public veneer of perfection. A non-swimming Laura supposedly drowns during a sailing accident. The accident however was really a premeditated escape plan by a swimming-able and still alive Laura, who knew that Martin would never allow her to leave him as long as she was alive.

Sleeping with the enemy (1991)

Rechristening herself Sarah Waters, Laura travels from their Cape Cod home to Cedar Falls, Iowa to be closer to her blind, wheelchair-bound and nursing home residing mother, who Martin believes is dead. Although apprehensive at first, Laura begins a relationship there with Ben Woodward, the local college's drama professor who is attracted to her despite the many secrets he knows she is keeping from him. Meanwhile, Martin stumbles onto evidence that Laura may still be alive, and stops at nothing to discover the truth so that he can carry out his promise of never letting her go while she's still alive. Martin is lying to Laura’s mother that he is a cop that needs to help her daughter escape from her husband, and he is trying to get some Laura’s information from Laura’s mother. After that, Martin finds Laura and Ben at a local fair, and then follows her to her home. After leaving idiosyncratic clues around the house for Laura to find, Martin confronts Laura. Martin is trying to kill Ben and bring Laura back to his side. When Ben come to visit Laura, Martin try to kill him, they get into the fight until Ben faint. Laura doesn’t want to get back to him, so she fights with him and shoot him until he die.

Above are both of the movie’s plots. Darr’s plot is quite similar to Sleeping with the enemy’s plot. Sleeping with the enemy, Martin wants his wife Laura to be with him forever and do not let her to flirt with other man. And Darr, the third person Rahul wants to separate Kiran and Sunil and get marry with her. The character of Martin and Rahul is almost the same, the very love their lover but the use violent tactics to get the girl. They are trying to get their love using their violent’s action. They are trying to get close with the girl’s family and hide their identity and collect the girl’s information. On the other hand, they plan to kill the man and grab the girl from the man’s hand.

Darr, there are some scene is influencde by some Hollywood movies. The starting of Darr, is someone who peeping Kiran. This scene is almost same with the Home Alone (1990) scene which is the kid is peeping the two thieves in the shopping mall. Besides that, Rahul holding Kiran’s photo when he is singing to Kiran. This is the scene which is same with Home Alone (1990), when the kid taken their photo and gave it to the two thief. Moreover, Sunil wearing Ninja’s clothing to save their minister’s daughter, the ninja’s clothing is same as Three Ninja (1992). The costumes of the characters are all-black and fully-covered. They are just same as other assassins’ movies such as Ninja Terminator (1985).

Darr (1993) - someone peeping the girl.

Home Alone (1990) - the kid peeping the thief

Darr (1993) -Rahul holding Kiran's photo.

Home Alone (1990) - The kid holding the thief's photo.

 Darr (1993) - The ninja's clothing.

Three Ninja (1992) - Ninja's clothing.

Furthermore, Sunil going to save the minister’s daughter by helicopter scenes and some of the killing scenes are influenced by the Hollywood movie- Rambo (1982), Rambo is a fighting movie, Rambo came down from the helicopter and some killing enemy scenes is totally influenced Darr. Besides that, most of the Hindi movies has a plot which including singing part, so does Darr. There is a part where Kiran is singing in the bushes. The similar techniques and shots can be found in the movie of The Sound of Music (1965) which directed by Robert Wise. Both of the female leads are singing at the bushes.

Darr (1993) - Sunil coming down from helicopter.

Rambo (1982) - Rambo coming down from helicopter.

Darr (1993) - the killing scene almost same as Rambo.

Rambo (1982) - the killing scene.

Darr (1993) - Kiran singing at the bushes.

Sound of the Music (1965) - the lady singing at the bushes.

Darr depends a lot on natural lighting. For outdoor shooting, there are many shoots that shot in bright sunny day. It is similar to Rambo (1982). Rambo also uses many natural lighting for shooting and not relying much on lighting equipment. For example, when Kiran is singing in the bushes in Darr.

Above is about the Bollywood movie Darr influenced by Hollywood movies. There is not only the plot influenced by Hollywood movies, the scenes shot and character’s personality also influenced by the Hollywood movies. So, Hollywood is a very big influenced to Bollywood movies.
